What are Constructive Triangles?
The Montessori Constructive Triangles material introduces children to geometry in a hands-on way. By joining different triangles, children discover that many plane shapes — squares, rectangles, rhombi, trapezoids, hexagons and more — are built from triangles.
Why children love it
- Perfect fit of the pieces creates a satisfying moment of success and natural control of error.
- Calm, focused work with clear visual results.
- Beautiful colours and smooth wooden surfaces invite repeated practice.
How it supports learning
- Builds an intuitive understanding of geometric composition and equivalence.
- Develops visual discrimination, concentration and fine motor control.
- Prepares for later work in geometry, measurement and fractions.
Classroom use
Invite the child to join two or more triangles to form new shapes, match outlines, and check results by superimposing pieces. Black guide lines on some triangles help the child see partitions and boundaries clearly, making symmetry and congruence easier to notice.
What’s included
- Five wooden boxes with lids: two rectangular boxes, one triangular box, one small hexagonal box, and one large hexagonal box.
- Triangles in different sizes, shapes and colours for composing a wide variety of figures.
Age
Approx. 3–6 years, with extensions for early elementary.
