Phonetic Object Box Two with Blue Cards
This Montessori language material supports the next level of early reading. The clear plastic box (6" x 4" x 2") includes 6 objects whose names are phonetic words of 4-5 letters, and 6 laminated blue word cards (3" x 3") with matching text. This set follows after the Pink Cards and extends practice from short 3-letter words to longer phonetic words.
Presentation of the material:
The Montessori teacher carefully takes out each object, one by one, names it simply (for example: "crab", "stand"), and places the objects vertically in a column. No additional words are used - we do not say things like "Look here, what a nice little crab." This follows the first step of the Three-Period Lesson: clear naming.
Then, the teacher removes the blue word cards and places them to the right of the objects in another vertical column, leaving space between the two columns. The teacher reads the first card slowly, sounds it out, blends the sounds, and places the card beside the matching object. This is repeated with all six words.
When finished, the teacher shows how to return the material: first stack the cards and place them back in the box, then return the objects, and close the box. The child is invited to repeat the work independently. The activity can be done at a table or on a floor mat.
Objects and cards may vary slightly from those shown.
